Morioka's Big Steel Civic Center lived up to its name as the packed crowd of 4,100 fans gathered for OCW's Dawn of the Behemoth event. Known for showcasing some of the largest athletes in professional wrestling, the evening was a spectacle from the very start. The production value was second to none, with towering pyrotechnics exploding as the giant video screens displayed larger-than-life graphics of the night’s competitors. The energy inside the arena was electric as fans eagerly awaited the colossal battles to unfold.
In the opening contest, Alexander Irvine and Jimmy Winner took on the team of David Troy and Orville Newton. The crowd buzzed with excitement, especially at seeing Winner and Irvine, two highly regarded MAX-J Global Heroes, paired up against Troy, a former Gusuku Bowl champion in chessboxing, and Newton, whose technical prowess had earned him a strong following in Japan. From the opening bell, Irvine’s veteran instincts were on full display as he methodically worked over Troy, keeping the 43-year-old warrior grounded with stiff strikes and a focused attack on his legs.
When Jimmy Winner and Orville Newton tagged in, the pace quickened as both men traded judo-style throws and counters. The match reached its turning point when Winner, having experimented with new grappling techniques, showcased the rarely-seen utsuri-goshi. The powerful judo throw caught Newton off guard, and Winner drove him to the mat with forceful authority, earning the 1-2-3 in decisive fashion. The crowd, awed by the technique, immediately began speculating that Winner may have found his new finisher of choice. The utsuri-goshi, with its devastating impact, left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.
The second match of the evening was fought under the sport form rules and featured a massive size disparity. Kenzo Hirata, the imposing super-heavyweight, towered over his opponent, Hayato Hamada, who, as a cruiserweight, was at a significant disadvantage in both weight and strength. From the opening round, Hirata’s size played a crucial role as he dominated the action on the mat, using his weight to keep Hamada pinned down and unable to mount much offense.
Hamada, a skilled grappler in his own right, used his agility and quick transitions to stay competitive, but Hirata’s wrestling background and overwhelming bulk eventually won out. By the second round, Hirata had achieved full mount, raining down blows before smoothly transitioning into a kimura. The weight difference proved too much for Hamada to overcome, and he was forced to tap out at the 4:15 mark of the second round. After the match, the two men exchanged handshakes, and Hirata, ever the tactician, even gave Hamada some pointers on improving his defense against larger opponents, showing mutual respect between the two fighters.
The leather strap match between Ryan Samuels and Tiger Mask Red was brutal and chaotic from the very start. The two men were tethered together by a thick leather strap, which made for a physical, dirty brawl as they were never far from each other. Samuels, known for his raw power and wild brawling style, immediately used the strap as a weapon, choking Tiger Mask Red in the corner and repeatedly pulling him into stiff shoulder blocks. The fans were on the edge of their seats as the match quickly descended into a slugfest, with each man using the strap to gain the upper hand whenever possible.
Tiger Mask Red, a master technician in his own right, responded by wrapping the strap around Samuels’ legs and yanking him off his feet, trying to wear down the larger man. The two continued trading heavy blows, with Tiger Mask Red repeatedly targeting Samuels’ ribs with knee strikes and kicks. But Samuels' raw power and relentless aggression began to take over, and the crowd could sense a shift in momentum. Samuels used the strap to pull Tiger Mask Red toward him, delivering crushing short-arm clotheslines and slamming him into the mat with authority.
With the two men wearing down, Tiger Mask Red turned on the offense by hitting a heavy big boot against Samuels that only got a two-count. He would attempt to set him up for a Boma Ye knee strike but Samuels popped up and speared Tiger Mask Red in the ribs and causing the PMLL champion to hit the back of his head against the canvas, appearing to stun the J1 SUMMIT runner-up and possibly earn him a concussion.
Samuels did not let up and the tide turned decisively when the Midwest Nightmare unleashed a series of one, two, three, and then a fourth Western Lariat, each one more punishing than the last. Tiger Mask Red, battered and bruised, somehow kept kicking out and staggering back up to his feet. After the fourth lariat, Samuels wrapped the strap around Tiger Mask Red's neck and yanked him forward into a devastating fifth lariat that nearly decapitated the masked warrior. The impact of the final blow sent Tiger Mask Red crashing to the mat, and Samuels covered him for the hard-fought 1-2-3 victory, scoring a massive upset in the process.
As the dust settled, OCW President Masahito Kishida entered the ring, bowing to Samuels in recognition of his impressive performances for the company. Kishida officially invited Samuels to return to OCW in February to compete in the prestigious Mammoth Cup, one of OCW’s premier tournaments. The crowd roared in approval as Samuels graciously accepted the offer, promising to return and make his mark in OCW once again.
