However, rather than jump to conclusions, Sano enlisted the help of the camp’s coaches— Mike Musket, Shinjiro Takahashi, and Asuka Mizuki —to investigate the matter.

Musket, the head coach of the camp and a former MAX-J Heavyweight Champion, took charge of the investigation. With the support of judo master Takahashi and joshi veteran Mizuki, they began to unravel the mystery. The tampering with equipment and the spy’s agility suggested that whoever was behind this had an intimate knowledge of wrestling and the camp’s setup, making it unlikely that the culprit was a mere lackey.

As the coaches dug deeper, Coach Musket noticed that one of the shinai - used for training at the camp for repeated over-head swings to build upper body strength - had the remnants of a pine-tar resin and he recalled a name from the past: Hikaru Yamada. Yamada had once been a promising student at the MAX-J Dojo back in 2017, known for his technical skills and dedication. However, he had abruptly dropped out of the program for reasons that were never fully explained, disappearing from the wrestling scene entirely. Yamada, when he trained with shinai back in the day, had always covered his hands in a similar resin to give himself a better grip. Musket, a foremost mountain man, said, "I'd recognize that tar anywhere."

To confirm their suspicions, Musket and Mizuki devised a plan. They set up a late-night training session as bait, hoping to lure the spy into the open. Musket and Mizuki sprang into action, confronting the intruder. To their surprise, the spy was indeed Hikaru Yamada and he was indeed holding one of the shinai, but of course he was now several years older but still carrying the weight of his time at the dojo. When questioned, Yamada revealed that he had dropped out of the MAX-J Dojo due to personal struggles and a loss of confidence. Since then, he had been living in seclusion, training alone, and harboring a deep regret for leaving the dojo. His return to the camp was driven by a desire to reclaim his lost dream and prove that he still had what it took to be a top wrestler.

Rather than punish Yamada, Coach Musket saw an opportunity to help the troubled young man. Understanding Yamada’s desperation and his need for redemption, Musket made him an offer: he could stay at the camp and train with the J1 SUMMIT participants on one condition—he would take on the janitorial duties, cleaning up and maintaining the camp, and - if he was lucky - be allowed to perform clean-up duties at the J1 SUMMIT. Yamada, eager to seize this second chance, gratefully accepted the offer.

Musket, known for his tough love approach, saw this as a way to instill discipline and a sense of responsibility in Yamada. “You’ve got talent, bucko, but you lost your way,” Musket told him. “If you’re willing to get your hands dirty and put in the work, you’ve got a place here. But you earn it every day.”

With the mystery resolved, the camp can now focus fully on preparing for the J1 SUMMIT. Yamada’s presence adds an unexpected twist to the story, as he works to rebuild his skills and regain his confidence under the watchful eyes of the coaches. The road to the J1 SUMMIT has been filled with surprises, and this latest development only adds to the intrigue surrounding the tournament.
