Following the disappointment of Pollo Road's Anniversary show, AJ Knight's globetrotting continues as he now flies back to Japan to prepare for the J1 Summit. Approaching stepping into the airport AJ Knight is surrounded by wrestling journalists, each wanting to pick his brain.
How do these fucking vultures keep finding out my travel details? Alright, game face. Let's try to keep this civil.
The first reporter steps up to him, a skinny man barely standing above 5' 3". In a weird way the fact this skinny little shit didn't get trampled on his way to the front impressed AJ a bit.
"Max Laurence, The Daily Driver. AJ, recently in your stint in Japan you've been at the center of controversy with a weigh in scandal at Cruiserworld II. Afterwards it came out that ZENKI of the Demon Brigade may have tampered with the scale. Aside from your initial comments referring to ZENKI's mother as a hoe, do you have any further thoughts on the situation?"
AJ can feel a slight smirk cross his face at that little gem of his being repeated.
He wants outrage, so how about some tact instead?
"I think it's a shame that ZENKI chose to rob the world and particularly the Japanese fans he claims to love so much of such a highly anticipated bout. For a man who preaches so much about the strength and honor of the Japanese spirit, so often he shows the exact opposite. Instead he uses bullshit, Looney Toons-esque shenanigans to rig the game in Japan's favor. I'm just saying that if you genuinely believed in the strength and superiority of the Japanese spirit, you wouldn't feel the need to rig the game. You wouldn't resort to poisoned ointment, or tampering with scales, because if you genuinely believed it, you'd be content to let your team win fair and square. Just my two cents."
A pudgy reporter with a neckbeard slides in, his greasy black hair crudely fashioned into a ponytail. The man was the physical embodiment of the image in your mind when you hear "Reddit mod".
"Chuck Mortimer, High Fly Digest. It's no secret that you've been having difficulty making the weight to continue competing as a Jr Heavyweight/Cruiserweight. Even prior to the Cruiserworld scandal, there was talk of suspending your campaign in that weight class, can you elaborate?"
Well, I'll give 'em this. They may be vultures, but at least they're asking relevant questions.
"Yeah, those rumors are true. Back when I was competing as a Jr. Heavyweight I was in my early 20s. Back then whatever weight I put on I burned off in training. Nowadays, not so much. I've just turned 30, I've filled out a little bit, and the weight doesn't burn off as easy. Honestly up to the moment I stepped on the scale I wasn't sure if I made weight. So, I think it's best for every if I gracefully step back from the Jr. division to avoid further confusion in the future. It's part of aging gracefully, accepting that your body can't do certain things it did when you were younger. I'm not going to do something crazy like, I don't know..."
You just can't help yourself can you AJ?
"Ask for a doctor's note to let me legally use PEDs to compensate."
An awkward silence fills the crowd of reporters as AJ gives a shit eating grin. There's no question that was a shot at Irvine's controversial use of TRT. One reporter breaks the silence. A blonde man of medium build, looking almost nervous to ask.
"Obviously, in your last outing in Japan you shared the ring with Alexander Irvine for the first time since 2019. Clearly five years and a tag title reign has not dulled the bad blood between you. What is it that fuels your hatred so much."
There is no hesitation in AJ's answer.
"Because the feud between me and Irvine isn't a five-year grudge that never got settled. It's a tale as old as time, between a younger generation who wants their turn to make the world they want to live in and an older generation scared to let go. But most of those old folks are just old men yelling at clouds. Irvine represents the worst of them. So scared and so desperate that they'd rather burn everything down than see it change. I want the sport to evolve, he wants to claw it back by any means necessary. That's how it was in 2018, that's how it still is today. We'll keep fighting until one of us gets our way. We may be in different blocks, but all the same I think the J1 Summit's going to be the place where we prove the merits of our vision to the world. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a flight to catch."
END.
