In September 2022, it was announced that six fighters would compete in qualifying matches with the winners advancing to a Four Corner Survival alongside a randomly selected wild card to crown the first cruiserweight champion. The first stage took place on 9/19/22 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and saw three veterans (Reo Ojima, David Troy, Takashi Shinobu) and three upstarts (Red Tiger King, MEZA, Luke Marshall) battle one another. The time limit draw between David Troy and Takashi Shinobu was so well received that the wild card entrant was scrapped and the pair both advanced to the final stage on 10/17/22 in Minneapolis, Minnesota alongside Reo Ojima and MEZA, the lone upstart.
