It was a cold and rainy day in the seaside port of Shimonoseki and fans were eager to attend the first MAX sponsored event in nearly four months. There was an eager buzz in Nagata Historical Field House, with hallways lining 19th and early 20th century military equipment as well as nautical memorabilia.
We saw the debut of fencer-turned-catch-wrestler Hajime Nishimoto who looked good early on versus Pollo Road’s Jin Hirai. He took a cautious and methodical approach but it was too much for the Japanese-Jamaican fighter who used his experience to catch Nishimoto in a number of mistakes to hit high-impact maneuvers, ultimately finishing off the rookie with a German suplex hold to pick up the win. Nishimoto was humble after the match and later told reporters that while he was disappointed in the outcome, he felt like he won in terms of acquiring valuable experience.
It was a veritable Canadian all-star trio in the Punch Line running up against the Sapporo Hansou and Yachting Club triumvirate of Akira Nakamura, Shinzo Takamori, and former MMA star Takeda Izumi. This was a match that had the fans on their feet, especially when Vezina leapt over the top rope with a plancha to the outside to hit all three SHYc superstars. Nakamura and Takamori would show off the teamwork they’ve developed over the years since wrestling in Shining Road’s NOVA division years ago, but it wasn’t enough when Vezina dropped Izumi with a snap powerbomb and got the pin to earn a victory for Canada.
In an openweight tag team bout, we would see the Kaminari Dojo duo of the legendary Thunder Mask with his portly disciple Balloon Yamazaki take on Matt Pulver and El Cerdo Mostaza. The latter team did not coordinate well early on with a significant amount of bickering. Additionally, Yamazaki sported a level of stamina and energy that we’ve never seen before, at one point hitting a spinning heel kick into the face of Pulver that almost KO’d the fighter.
But Pulver would make it over to ECM as the two giants squared off. Yamazaki’s passion was on full display as he had the upper hand with elbows to ECM that had the big man rocking. However, utilizing his recent training in sumo, ECM would push back the Fightin’ Buddha and hit a running shotei that caused his opponent’s eyes to roll back into his head and covered him for the pin to grab the victory.

CALM DOWN CALAMARI POST-WORKOUT FORMULA
"HE AN ANGRY SQUID!!"
The action continued to heat when former MAX Heavyweight Champion “Demon Lord” Zenki would team with veteran junior heavyweight Shigeru Toyama vs the current PMLL Cruiserweight Champion MEZA and his mentor LYNX. This was a back-and-forth affair and Zenki made it well-known that he wanted a piece of the young champion. Toyama and MEZA squared off first and it was obvious that the Cruiserweight Champion was a step ahead, hitting a tornado DDT that earned applause from the fans.
Eventually, Zenki would manage to find his way into the ring with MEZA and what followed was a high-intensity affair that saw MEZA take control early much to the displeasure of many Zenki Zealots in the crowd as MEZA hit several elbows in quick succession and then a spinning heel kick to pit the Demon Lord on his behind! The offense was interrupted when Zenki caught the Cruiserweight Champion with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker.
Eventually MEZA would get back to his corner and tag in LYNX whose craftiness was on full display, but it was Zenki once again powering through to get the upper hand and eventually catch the veteran in a Scorpion Deathlock in the center of the ring. With Toyama keeping MEZA down on the outside, LYNX began to move toward the ropes when Zenki used his elite-level lower body strength to drag the downed fighter back to the ropes and then applied heel hook to eventually cause LYNX to tap out.
The penultimate match of the night would feature the younger “Genius” Katsuhiko Himura versus the legendary and mysterious Kalidah. Early on it became something of a battle of speed versus strength with Himura using his mobility to shoot for takedowns, though the statuesque Kalidah defended them rather successfully. It was when Himura leapt for a flying elbow smash that finally put the Dark Stalker on his back.
The action on the mat continued to favor Himura, who eventually locked in a kneebar but Kalidah was able to make it to the ropes and the action stood back up. A flurry of kicks to the thigh from Himura could easily be heard through the crowd but the tide turned abruptly when Kalidah dove forward with a standing lariat that had Genius Himura spinning about! Following this up with a release German suplex, however, would only net a two-count.
Kalidah repeatedly attempted to pin the younger fighter, but in a battle of endurance versus wisdom, eventually Himura would hit repeated enzuigiris to the towering and stumbling Beast of Hotel California, who eventually was dropped to a knee. Himura would back up to set up a Shining Wizard but just before going airbone Kalidah would suddenly hit a knee-strike to the jaw that knocked out the younger fighter as the referee called the bell! Kalidah raised a hand in victory as the crowd gasped and ringside attendants helped Himura, who would be taken backstage for a medical evaluation, to his feet.
Prior to the main event, GM Masaaki Sano addressed the crowd and thanked the good people of Shimonoseki for making the night a success and promised that the MAX fighters would return soon. However, he said that first that the 4536 Group had directed him to inform the fighter and fans that their business would take the MAX ambassadors to North America where multiple shows had already been locked in. He encouraged fans to sign up for ENSOU! TV’s new streaming service RYUUSEI where a subscription would allow them to keep up with all the action live.

World Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship
METAL HERO and Earth Warrior (c) vs. AJ Knight and Jimmy Winner
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
With the announcements out of the way, The World Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship would finally be under way. “The Crusader” AJ Knight and “Judoka” Jimmy Winner would enter the ring separately, with the latter clad in a judo-gi, thought he shook hands with Knight and bore a serious expression. As the two challengers exchanged words of strategy, the champions METAL HERO and Earth Warrior entered the ring together and fans were surprised to see Earth Warrior not only having dropped his baggy athletic pants for half-tights but also that he did not come to the ring advertising any environmental causes.
It was Jimmy Winner and Earth Warrior who got the match started and it was obvious from the get-go that both fighters were locked in. Chain wrestling saw Winner attempt a hip toss but the all-world athleticism of Earth Warrior allowed him to slip away and hit a dropkick that put the judoka on his back and eventually tag in AJ Knight.
AJ would immediately motion for Earth Warrior to tag in METAL HERO and the fans began to applaud as Earth Warrior eventually acquiesced as the Atomic Assassin ponderously entered the ring. The two men stood across from one another in silent for several moments in a standoff that only heightened the tension. Eventually the two began encircling one another, crouching and attempting to snatch an ankle but never quite committing. It was also clear that HERO was attempting to setup a heavy roundhouse kick or knee strike and a few times made the attempt but a cognizant Knight would back off and reset the action.
The action really began to turn when HERO would respond to a shoot by falling forward into a front headlock and bringing Knight down with him. HERO would attempt some knees to the top of the head and thing seems quite dangerous for a few moments until AJ gator-rolled out of it and caught HERO in the chest with a roundhouse kick while the dark matte metallic fighter was on a knee. Repeated roundhouse kicks would eventually see AJ run forward and go for a Shining Wizard and get a two-count!
AJ would tag in Jimmy Winner who would put HERO on his back with a successful hip throw and keep a headlock on the masked helm of HERO who would eventually get a foot on the ropes to stand the action back up. Back on their feet, the action favored METAL HERO who eventually slammed a roundhouse kick into the ribs of Winner that would see the judoka double over and allow HERO to tag in Earth Warrior who entered the ring by springboarding to the top rope and leaping for a missile dropkick that would send Winner flying across the ring into the turnbuckle!
The aerial attacks of Earth Warrior almost made it seem as though he barely touched the ground, leaping from the middle rope or the turnbuckle with elbow smashes and spinning wheel kicks that had the judoka in a whirl. A standing hurricanrana with both legs hooked would get AJ spooked and cause him to enter the ring to break up the pin before the three count, using up the team’s save. Earth Warrior would resume his attack with a series of knee drops before tagging in METAL HERO back into the action.
HERO’s offense of heavy kicks would beat up a Jimmy Winner who repeatedly clutched his side, seemingly still bothered by the earlier roundhouse kick to the midsection, as his gi would become loose on his frame. Setting him up for the Metallic Kick, Jimmy Winner would stumble forward and duck his head to just barely miss the attack and catching HERO with a German suplex hold for the 1…

3-NO!
But Winner would manage to reach out to tag in AJ who would enter with a superkick that seemingly put a dent into the helmed mask of METAL HERO who stumbled into the ropes seemingly unconscious and come forward with another superkick that METAL HERO could not duck and would see him fall on his back to the canvas! Knight would pump a fist as the fans were smacking the backs of their chairs in excitement so that it sounded like a thundering herd throughout the arena.
Unsatisfied with the damage he’d done so far, AJ would take the risky move of standing up METAL HERO and going for a DDT – but HERO caught his foot around AJ’s foot to prevent himself from falling and manage to lift his head up out of it – only to eat an elbow smash from Knight and then get picked up for a Northern Lights Bomb! AJ would cover this time, placing his back across HERO’s stomach and hooking his leg for the 1…

~ Wait a minute! Earth Warrior would ready to thrust himself over the top rope to leap into the ring for a diving leg drop to attempt a save but AJ’s exceptional ring awareness would catch the motion early out of the corner of his eye and he would break up the pin himself by rolling off of HERO, causing Earth Warrior to leap but miss completely and land on his arse, rolling out of the ring while clutching his lower back on the outside. AJ would keep up the offense to the troubled HERO, who was trying to crawl away but caught an elbow drop to the back of the head as Knight applied the Templar Stretch! With the dented helm caught in the hold, HERO was out of options...

HERO would reach for the rope...
... no rope to be found...
... HERO would reach out a hand, seemingly ready to end his suffering...
... when unexpectedly Earth Warrior would grab HERO’s foot and drag him backward, breaking him out of the hold and bringing him to the outside of the ring!
AJ Knight stood up to his feet and immediately approached the referee holding up two fingers, indicating that Earth Warrior had made a second save, something illegal under the rules of the AJSWC. Earth Warrior would immediately plead his case that he had not in fact used a save because earlier he did not actually disrupt the pin himself, but AJ had voluntarily relinquished the pin.
The match would remain on hold for several minutes as the referee put on the headphones to confer with AJSWC officials, leading the fighters to stand on their respective aprons as they awaited the result, allowing the murmur of the fans to permeate seemingly every corner of the arena.

When the referee reentered the ring, he informed the fighters that the video footage showed that when AJ Knight began the motion of releasing the pin, although Earth Warrior had begun the motion of leaping, the balls of his feet were still on the apron and his hands still gripping the top rope. As a result, because Earth Warrior left the apron while there was no fall in progress, he could not have made a save attempt, thus causing his actions to fall under “incidental contact” which leaves discretion up the referee whether to disqualify a team.
The referee then explained because Earth Warrior both did not actually make contact with Knight and he then rolled out of the ring promptly, it did not meet the standard of “excessive contact” which is the standard for a disqualification. Under this ruling, therefore, when Earth Warrior pulled HERO out of the ring the team still had their one save available. The referee did warn Earth Warrior that he would be on a tight leash in the future should he test the patience of the referee.
With both teams having now used up their saves, the match would continue with Earth Warrior now the legal man versus a visibly furious AJ Knight who seemed hellbent on ensuring that Earth Warrior would regret his actions. Knight was all over the eco-warrior, with chops to the chest and elbows to the masked head, getting into the clinch and kneeing him in the sternum over and over again. Knight would take Earth Warrior to the center of the ring and plant him with a heavy Evenflow DDT that would see the eco-warrior go limp and cover for the pin while locking his eyes on a helpless METAL HERO.

FOOT ON THE ROPE! The referee caught it within a hair’s breadth of his palm striking the mat.
AJ Knight was visceral, muttering to himself something to the effect of “It isn’t enough just to beat both of them once, is it?” while removing the elbow pad as if to also say, “fuck it, I’m gonna make this really hurt” as he began pummeling Earth Warrior with elbow strikes leading to an obviously bloody face as blood dripped from under the corners of the masked fighter.
Knight would kick Earth Warrior in the gut, but Warrior would use the momentum to roll forward with a koppu kick that would somehow catch AJ on the side of the head and the two men would both lie there stunned. The fans were insane at the scene as the two laid motionless on their backs. Those in the audience who weren’t yelling had their hands over the mouths in shock.
Eventually both men began to move as AJ crawled toward the corner to the outstretched hand of Jimmy Winner. Earth Warrior instead rolled to the outside and hit the mat, a much quicker exit which allowed HERO to dive into the ring and snatch AJ by the ankle before he could make the tag! He applied a standing ankle lock, but AJ would roll forward to break out of it and get up to his feet.
HERO would rush forward with a lariat but AJ would duck and fluidly hit a neckbreaker! AJ would get up, but a METAL HERO who had spent many minutes on the apron got up just as fast and painted AJ’s chest with a roundhouse kick, the smack of the pad audible even in the chaos of the arena! AJ would scream and then do the same, HERO absorbing the thud and being pushed back! HERO with another! AJ with another! HERO with another!
AJ would land another kick to the chest that saw HERO go to a knee and then proceed to hit a second! A third! A fourth ~ it landed by HERO captured the shin, pinning the leg to his chest as he got up to his feet! AJ would go for an enzuigiri but miss and land face first as HERO scooped him up and threw him backward for a thunderous BACKDROP DRIVER that would have made the 1990s proud. HERO would cover for the pin! 1…

NO! Impossibly, somehow, AJ would get a shoulder up and then go completely limp face-first on the mat.
HERO looked at the referee and his body language betrayed his frustration behind the mask. With HERO on his feet he began laying soccer kicks into AJ who covered up though was fairly immobile. HERO picked him up again with a BACKDROP HOLD, sending the back of AJ’s skull crashing into the mat and bridging the pin! 1…

THE BELL SOUNDS!!!!
Fans were jumping up and down in the arena as an army of attendants with ice-packs flooded the ring and immediately began cover the fighters with them. All four fighters were down in the ring – Jimmy Winner leaning against the ropes with half of his judo-gi torn off and purplish bruises on his obliques, Earth Warrior lying on his back with his still bleeding face coloring the icepacks on his cheeks red, a still downed AJ face-first with icepacks on the back of his neck, his fists balled up in some combination of pain and fury, and METAL HERO slumped against the bottom turnbuckle as though it were a throne and he were some sort of king who was either dying or already dead.
As the ringside announcer broadcasted the result near midnight in Shimonoseki, fans took note that the match had exceeded the forty-five minute mark. Eventually, all the wrestlers would be able to leave under their own power. Winner would smack AJ on the shoulder, telling him it was an honor, and while AJ nodded to him in respect, the competitive glare seemingly never leaving his face. The championship belts would continue to rest upon the waists of METAL HERO and Earth Warrior as the cameras flashed while they made their way up the ramp after completing a successful V3 defense. And as the show ended as the fans moved to the exits, the murmur and excitement was palpable, knowing that they were witnesses to an instant classic that will be hotly discussed in the coming days and weeks and no doubt will be remembered for years.
