AJ Knight is the new cruiserweight champion and Pollo Dorado II has been unmasked as Matt Pulver!
The 20th Anniversary Special was a wild one for sure, but just because summer is coming to a rapid end doesn't mean that things are cooling down in Pollo Road. The Laurentide Athletic Commission has formally stepped in and although details are murky, it seems that Pollo Bucket's role in future events will be minimal but the fast food company will remain as a title sponsor. With matchmaker Mandeville Nelson's injury and subsequent resignation, the LAC has appointed Oklahoma born wrestling veteran Duke Womack as their go between - a role that the original Pollo Dorado was attempting to land. Womack was backstage at the Anniversary Special, but was not shown on camera.
One issue between Pollo Bucket and the Laurentide Athletic Commission is Matt Pulver. Since suffering a concussion in 2018, Matt Pulver has not been able to get medically cleared by the LAC to compete inside its rings. Pollo Bucket clearly gambled by having Pulver work under the Pollo Dorado II mask, hoping he'd beat AJ Knight in the main event at the Anniversary Special and remain anonymous. With his unmasking, Pulver has been medically suspended indefinitely. There were initial talks of the Laurentide Athletic Commission completely removing the cruiserweight championship, but it appears those talks dwindled when records were produced showing that Pulver did in fact get cleared outside of the LAC's jurisdiction. Duke Womack was said to be very instrumental in getting the LAC to reconsider their stance on Pulver, who will undergo further testing after his arm injury is fully understood and healed.
All of these moving parts are why an upcoming event was not announced at the Anniversary Special, but rest assured Pollo Road is alive and well. It appears also that Pollo Road will be sending some representatives back to Japan to compete under the MAX-J banner within the next month.
