THE SUPREME BATTLE OF CRUISERWEIGHT FIGHTERS!

An establishing shot of the beautiful Royal Rock Casino & Resort is shown. Fans are lined up outside the venue, awaiting their chance to take their seat. The camera passes through the crowd, many fans wearing merchandise - shirts and masks - in support of their favourite Pollo Road fighters. Some fans are even wearing old-school merch, El Hijo de Pollo, Los Pollos Excelentes, etc. No matter their attire, the fans are fired up and ready for the evening of action.

We switch to the inside of the building and show the ring where Mason Marvelle is dressed to the nines, ready to address the crowd.

MASON MARVELLE
Ladies and gentlemen, let's meet the field of fighters for tonight's EL HIJO DE POLLO MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT!

Cheers!

The field of eight make their way out from the back.

MEZA! He gets a great pop!

Red Tiger King! He is welcomed warmly!

Nothing but love for Jan van der Roost!

David Troy is a rock star! At least judging by his crowd response.

Luke Marshall isn't very well liked, but he doesn't care of course.

Pollo Dorado II gets a lot of love for being relatively new.

Eron Hunter's arrival is well received, too.

Finally, of course, AJ Knight makes his way out and soaks in the mixed response with a smile.

The eight men converge inside the ring with their appearance in the tournament ready to be forfeited if they get physical, Luke Marshall doesn't take his eyes off MEZA who gives him a smirk... just to piss him off. David Troy and AJ Knight exchange a few words, but neither seems to be pleased or displeased by the interaction - so who knows what was said. Jan van der Roost makes a point to shake everyone's hand, even attempting to shake Luke Marshall's but that goes as well as expected. We'll let you guess the words used by the miserable sod.

MASON MARVELLE
Here is the prize that these men will be fighting for... as well as a few words from Los Pollos Excelentes member and cousin, SUPER POLLO!

Soup's announcement and arrival gets a big pop. Stage hands bring out a gold trophy, which has El Hijo de Pollo's mask beautifully recreated upon it. They set it down inside the ring and every single one of the eight fighters briefly admires it before Super Pollo takes centre stage.

SUPER POLLO

It is here tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada that we honour our friend, our brother, and in some cases... our enemy - the late Hijo de Pollo. Tonight, these eight men will compete as they vie for the trophy you see before you and a chance to meet the World's Cruiserweight Champion, Reo Ojima at a later date. Gentlemen, may the best fighter win.

Pollo solemnly nods and quickly exits the ring before being followed by the eight competitors. A shot of El Hijo de Pollo appears on the screen to a roar from the crowd and a ten bell salute follows as we go dark.

First Round Match

RED TIGER KING vs. LUKE MARSHALL

1 Fall - 15 Minute Time Limit

For just over six minutes, the masked Red Tiger King and the bad attitude Aussie Luke Marshall waged total war onto each other. With lots of jaw jacking right out of the gate, the words turned to strikes - chops that blistered the chest - before they started throwing elbows. Luke Marshall's inability to look past his tapout submission loss to MEZA may have cost him the exchange, or it was RTK realizing that if he didn't throw with every fibre of his being, that he wasn't walking out of this match in a conscious state. In the end, it was a stiff elbow shot that wobbled RTK and left him open for a kick to the gut. Marshall once again threw him into the buckles with a powerbomb, then attempted the Last Ride-style powerbomb. RTK slipped out the back and waylayed his foe with a pele kick! RTK watched as Marshall stumbled backwards, then seized the day - scrambling to his feet, delivering a spinning heel kick to a cornered Marshall that dropped him in good enough position to finish the Aussie off with a moonsault! 1-2-3, the Tiger advances.

First Round Match

JAN VAN DER ROOST vs. DAVID TROY

1 Fall - 15 Minute Time Limit

Jan van der Roost received a warm welcome from the Vegas crowd, but David Troy was certainly the fan favourite this evening. The match started off methodically with both veterans of the squared circle exchanging holds and chain wrestling, but ramped up a bit when Roost tried to small package Troy. Troy, accepting the challenge, began pulling out a number of different flash pins before scoring the fall with a backslide! Roost admitted to being bested and shook Troy's hand, raised his arm and wished him luck in the rest of tournament.

First Round Match
ERON HUNTER vs. MEZA
1 Fall - 15 Minute Time Limit

The 6'2" / 200lbs Eron Hunter circles around the 5'8" / 180lbs MEZA as the bell sounds to begin our third first round match. The two lock-up and Hunter immediately knees MEZA in the midsection and shoots him off the ropes, he spins in place - searching for the White Tiger Lariat but MEZA ducks and goes behind. Hunter does a standing switch, but MEZA does one of his own and spins the former MAX World's Jr. Heavyweight Champion away. He tries for a hip toss, but eats a lariat instead! The crowd comes alive at the exchange!

SAM HEWITT

Very fast paced in the early moments. I was very intrigued by this bout when I seen it announced, Eron Hunter is three years older than MEZA but has one less year of experience. However, those five of years of experience have served him well. In fact, he won the MAX World's Jr. Heavyweight Champion in his first year.

BRIAN SHELZI

Yeah, but... opportunities don't make the man. Just because Eron Hunter had better chances and opportunities in his career so far doesn't mean that MEZA is any less of a fighter. Hell, you might even say he's hungrier.

In lieu of a cover, Hunter pulls MEZA to his feet and goes to Irish whip him but gets reversed in mid-stride. Hunter crashes into the corner and MEZA runs in... HESITATION DROPKICK! Hunter staggers out and MEZA snapmares him to the mat. He leaps onto the second rope and crashes down onto Hunter with a Coffin Drop! He rolls over and hooks the leg!

2-NO!

Hunter kicks out and MEZA gets up and heads to the corner. Hunter climbs to his feet with his back to MEZA and gets dropkicked! Hunter nearly does a somersault on his way out of the ring. MEZA calls out to the Vegas crowd announcing his intentions and charges across the ring, but grabs the top and middle rope as he executes a tiger feint kick and walks back to the centre of the ring - beckoning Hunter back inside. Hunter doesn't seem too impressed by the showmanship, but makes good on the offer to get back inside the ring. The two men circle once more, but once more the knee to the midsection strikes and the doubled over MEZA is slapped into a butterfly lock and thrown overhead. Hunter rolls through to keep the lock intact and Tubby Thomas is in great position to ask MEZA if he wants to submit. "NO!" is the response before he manages to kick a foot onto the bottom rope.

BRIAN SHELZI

Excellent ring awareness right there! I find Hunter's use of a submission in that spot interesting, I feel like he's telling MEZA he's good at that too...

Hunter tries to grab MEZA as he's getting up but gets shoved backwards into the corner. The New Mexico charges the Wild at Heart White Tiger but Hunter ducks and lifts MEZA into the air. MEZA takes position on the turnbuckles, but Hunter turns around and palm strikes him - MEZA climbs down and attempts to grab Hunter again but eats a kick to the ribs! Hunter leaps onto the second rope and drills MEZA with a flying knee strike that sends him tumbling off the apron and to the floor! He recovers quickly, but gets caught by Eron Hunter charging across the ring and diving through with a front dropkick! In an impressive display of athleticism, Hunter skins the cat back inside the ring and backs up with his arms crossed.

"ER-ON!"

MEZA is sent back into the guardrail by the dropkick, but not so hard that he can't get back up. Hunter waits patiently inside the ring as MEZA collects his wits about him before climbing back in. Hunter gives him very little time to recover, grabbing him as soon as he's on his feet. He yanks him into a front chancery and quick brainbuster follows! He covers!

Hunter rolls MEZA onto his stomach and applies a half nelson and pulls him up to his feet...

HALF NELSON SUPLEX!

He covers again!

Hunter rolls off and slaps his arm as rises up on the apron. He grabs the top rope and waits as MEZA wanders up to his feet, then launches himself onto the top rope and off with a springboard lariat attempt!

HE MISSES!

MEZA turns and scoops Hunter up...

PENDULUM BOMB!

He tries to apply a kneebar, but Hunter gets to the ropes immediately.

SAM HEWITT

Eron Hunter not about to test his limits against the submission skills of MEZA.

BRIAN SHELZI

Nor should he. You want to get out of the first round as fresh as possible, so showing your toughness by withstanding a submission is a stupid move in my book.

MEZA grabs Hunter and pulls him to his fee--

ROUNDHOUSE KICK!

MEZA is knocked down! Hunter rushes to the ropes - leaps onto the second, then the top...

WHITE TIGER ASSAULT!

The springboard moonsault lands!

He covers!

3-NO!

Just in time! MEZA gets his shoulder up and keeps the match going. Hunter grabs him and stuffs him between his legs and hoists him up for the White Tiger Bom--

HURACANRANA!

MEZA hooks the legs for the pin!

Thomas barely gets to signal TWO before MEZA grabs Hunter's arm, steps over to turn the White Tiger onto his stomach, hammerlocks the arm between his legs and rolls forward...

LA MAGISTRAL!

The crowd pops as MEZA releases the pinning hold and gets his arm raised by Thomas. MEZA backs up into the ropes and keeps his eyes on Eron Hunter, who slowly gets up and comes face to face with MEZA. The White Tiger nods and shakes his hand.

SAM HEWITT

What a superb finishing sequence! A very close fall for both men, then MEZA busts out la magistral and stamps his ticket to the semi finals.

BRIAN SHELZI

Further proof that it doesn't have to be high impact to be effective. All it takes is two shoulders on the mat for a three count as beautifully shown by that young man right there.

MEZA high fives some fans at ringside as we fade to commercial.

First Round Match
AJ KNIGHT vs. POLLO DORADO II
1 Fall - 15 Minute Time Limit

The bell sounds and both men emerge from their corners. For the first time, they get close and something... seems to throw AJ Knight off as he's about to lock-up with Pollo Dorado II. PD2 takes full advantage of that and arm drags him to the mat with authority! AJ Knight rolls toward the ropes, buying himself a few moments before climbing to his feet and getting back into it. He shakes his head, shrugs his shoulders at a fan chirping him and continues on. AJ clamps on a quick side headlock and immediately throws Dorado over onto the mat with a takeover, pats him on the side of the head and gets up.

BRIAN SHELZI

Classic AJ Knight at play here. Not going to let Pollo Dorado II show him up, letting him know he can do it just as easy.

Dorado and AJ circle around, AJ's chatting him up as they slowly interlock their fingers. They finally get both locked and AJ Knight seems to think they're going for a test of strength, but Dorado leaps up and drives both feet into his chest with a front dropkick. Knight goes reeling across the ring, staggers back up to greet a charging Dorado, but falls back on his ass in the corner. Dorado smiles and applauds, backing up at Tubby Thomas' request. AJ stands up, keeps his right hand on the top rope as he walks around the entire length of the ring. All the while Pollo Dorado II is standing cool and collected in the centre, waiting for him. AJ is ready and suggests a test of strength again, Dorado lifts his right ar-- AJ grabs a gutwrench and suplexes him over! He floats over and goes for a cover, but Dorado doesn't even give him the satisfaction of a one count! So... AJ grabs Dorado's left leg and takes his foot, bends it up to his knee! He hooks the foot inside the crux of his elbow and tries to turn Dorado onto his stomach, but Dorado manages to scramble and winds up grabbing AJ's arm in the process. He's trying to go for a hammerlock, but AJ pivots and tries to prevent this as best he can. Unfortunately for AJ, Dorado shows some incredible skill and strength and has AJ on the top of his head before Dorado brings him up to his feet in an arm lock. AJ tries to wring his way out of it and succeeds with the arm wringer, but gets arm dragged right down to the mat again. Dorado backs up as AJ gets to his feet.

SAM HEWITT

Being drawn to face AJ Knight in your very first matc--well, his first match as Pollo Dorado. I think it's plain to see that this competitor has some degree of his experience under his belt, but to what extent I don't quite know. AJ Knight is a tall order for any fighter, inexperienced or not.

BRIAN SHELZI

Spot on. AJ Knight is gifted, but he's a jack of all trades. He's a thinking man's wrestler.

AJ and Dorado lock-up again. AJ pushes his foe into the ropes, then shoots him off. He tries a drop down in attempt to trip him, but cannot as Dorado leaps over and keeps running. Nevertheless, AJ hops up and attacks the leg - diving and snatching it out from underneath the masked man. With Dorado flat on his stomach, AJ puts both feet on the back of Dorado's knees and tucks PD2's feet around his own legs. He leans forward, trying to grab at Dorado's mask - even smacking him in the sides to make the arms react instinctively, but Dorado wisely folds his arms underneath himself. No matter for AJ, who jumps and stomps down - driving Dorado's thighs into the mat with all of AJ Knight's weight on top of them. AJ does it a second, then a third, then a fourth... and fifth time before releasing. Dorado rolls out of the ring, collapsing to the ground. He massages his legs as he lays on his back, then rolls to his feet and takes a quick stroll to try and walk it off and returns to the ring at the count of nine. The two circle around, then AJ attacks Dorado's shoulder with the point of his elbow and then tries to apply a hammerlock... but Dorado wows the fans as he grabs the back of AJ's head and leaps up - nearly vertical - and comes back down to execute a flying mare on AJ! Knight pops back up and rushes Dorado, who dodges the attack but still comes out with an arm drag on AJ! Once more AJ pops up, Dorado leap frogs him and then flips AJ over with a Northern Lights suplex! He floats over and tries to apply a chickenwing armlock, or a headscissored kimura... but AJ drapes his foot over the bottom rope.

BRIAN SHELZI

So right here you're seeing what Pollo Dorado is going to bring to the table. Not only is he fast - we've got plenty of fast fighters here in Pollo Road, but he's skilled. If he can keep someone like AJ Knight guessing in a sequence like that, then I think it's spells trouble for just about anyone.

The two men get up, but Dorado picks AJ's ankle and puts him back on the mat. He lays across AJ's thigh, pulling the leg and foot in a toe hold. AJ tries to reach up and grab Dorado's mask, but PD2 uses his free leg to do the work his arms were doing and ramp up the pressure. AJ drops back to the mat clutching his head in pain, but then brings his own free leg up and drapes it over the front of Dorado's neck, frees up his other leg and clamps on a cross armbreaker all in a matter of seconds. The fans applaud the sequence as Dorado works to first leverage the hold so it's not as painful, and work towards an escape. He doesn't get the escape, but manages to wrangle himself into a position to essentially stack himself on AJ and force a pin.

Wow! That's a great kickout by AJ Knight and a tremendous pin attempt by Pollo Dorado. It wasn't as simple as AJ just letting go of his hold as Dorado had twisted him up enough that he certainly could've gotten the three against a less composed opponent.

BRIAN SHELZI

Sambo, it's one big reason I love the technical style especially mixed with the luchadores. They can pull off some creative stuff, so for all the kids at home wanting to be like their favourite stars on TV - take inspiration from everywhere.

Out of the lock-up, it's AJ's turn for a single leg trip and he quickly manages to slap on a single leg crab - a throwback to his frenemy Ben Chrenshaw. AJ doesn't quite have it completely set, but seems to be doing enough work to aggravate the thigh muscles that he previously stomped on. Each time Dorado gets close to the ropes, AJ pulls him back away which prompts the crowd to begin chanting "DO-RA-DO!" in support of the newest masked man on the block. The fan support seems to do the trick as Dorado muscles his way over and clamps onto the bottom rope as Tubby Thomas forces AJ to relinquish the hold. AJ does with little issue, and Dorado is back on his feet in a matter of seconds. He charges at AJ, who back body drops hi--well, tries to, Dorado miraculously lands on his feet and grabs AJ in a rear waist hold... but AJ executes a standing switch, fakes on a German suplex and drops Dorado onto his knee with an atomic drop! Dorado staggers in place and turns, eating a lariat for dinner! He makes a quick cover, even hooking the leg!

AJ isn't too complimentary about Thomas' count and lets him know that. Thomas reassures him that regardless of his opinion that it was only a two, AJ shakes his head and pulls Dorado to his feet. He goes behind, trying for the German suplex for real this time but Dorado mule kicks his way out of it! AJ falls through the ropes to the apron and tries to get back up, but Dorado dropkicks him! AJ crashes out to the floor, but quickly grabs the guardrail to try and return to his feet. Dorado leaps over the top rope onto the apron and springs onto the second rope... looks back, and jumps back down to the apron. The crowd boos a bit, but Dorado leaps off the apron with a somersault and takes AJ out that way instead!

A bit of a fake out!

A much safer way to go about things too. I've seen that asai moonsault end careers and if your opponent isn't dazed and confused enough, or being held by a partner, you really don't have much of a window to hit it successfully.

Dorado gathers AJ up and stuffs him back inside the ring. Dorado plays to the crowd as they begin chanting his name again. He climbs back onto the apron, then back inside the ring. He attempts a running dropkick, but AJ moves and Dorado crashes down to the mat. AJ grabs Dorado in a front chancery and plants him into the mat with a DDT! AJ lays on the mat, looking up at the lights as Dorado is nearly lifeless beside him. AJ rolls onto his side, then to his knees and crawls to the ropes in an attempt to get back up. Dorado is barely stirring, but AJ dashes across and drops an elbow down on the back of his neck! AJ grinds the point of his elbow into Dorado's neck, which Thomas determines is illegal and gives him a five count. AJ is frustrated by this, but lets it slide. He grabs Dorado up off the mat and applies a hammerlock and he's about to turn it around into his signature DDT... but Dorado wheels out and applies a British arm lock, cranking some pressure on AJ's shoulder. Dorado then moves his right arm over, weaves underneath with the hold intact and drops to his knees. AJ is arm dragged over him, but Dorado maintains the hold, rolls AJ onto his stomach, chickenwings his free arm and walks over to pin his shoulders to the mat, clutching AJ's leg in the process. The Skayde Special, if you're confused.

Wow! I don't think AJ Knight had any idea which way he was being taken in that hold... I.. I... don't even know how to describe it. Pollo Clutch, sure!

AJ sits up, visibly impressed by the method in which he's been defeated. He gets up and offers his hand to Dorado, who hesitates... but quickly shakes it. AJ nods and exits the ring leaving Dorado to soak in the response from the crowd. Dorado takes a quick bow and drops to the mat, rolling out and slapping a few young fans hands on his way to the back.

BRIAN SHELZI

A very nonchalant celebration, I can dig it. A win is a win, hard fought for sure but there's still more work to be done.

SAM HEWITT

That concludes the first round of the tournament. I'm told that the semi finals are set and MEZA will square off with Red Tiger King while David Troy matches up with the man we see on our screen, Pollo Dorado. Both should be incredible bouts, but let's take a quick break!

A spotlight shoots onto the stage revealing Jin Hirai, Crazy Boy, and Jeremy Squire dressed in red and green sequin suits. The reveal has the whole audience hurling their loudest boos. The displeasure is so audible, we can’t even hear the music fade out.

Ya’ll know what? Keep booing. The longer ya’ll boo, the longer we get to be up here in the spotlight, baby.

BRIAN SHELZI
Luckily these chairs are attached or else they’d have a one-way ticket to WAG1.

JIN HIRAI
Hey CB—ask me what I wanted for Christmas this year.

Yo Jin—what’d you ask Santa for?

JIN HIRAI
You know what, boys? I didn’t ask for anything... No... because all I wanted this year was for WAG1 to be invited... to the Invitational. As ya’ll already know, the clowns up in the front office thought ya’ll wanted to see old-ass losers like Van der Roost and David Troy. Meanwhile, real legends like us—who knew Hijo...

Jin pauses and smirks before continuing his statement.

JIN HIRAI
What I meant to say is: real legends like us who outgrew Hijo and we still ain’t even invited.

SAM HEWITT
I don’t even know if the broadcast team can hear me over this crowd, but I think we’re seconds away from a stampede.

Jeremy Squire and brother, CB, tease the audience by shouting “We can’t hear you. We can’t hear you.”

JIN HIRAI
We ain’t here to listen to you Vegas uncultured desert rats boo us. Look, even ya’lls water supply is trying to ditch this oversized junkyard. A few pretty lights and Wayne Newton ain’t going to hide the fact that we can smell you from up here. Listen, I could roast this town all night, but we here for one reason. We ain’t been getting what we want since we started out here. We’ve been screwed, we’ve been discarded. No more. As of tonight, WAG1 is gonna help itself to what it wants. And we want in on the HIJO INVITATIONAL. We are announcing WAG1 as the official back-up should anyone...you know... have an “accident” before their first match. If anyone from the Commission has a problem with that, roll up.

SAM HEWITT
Can they even do that?!

BRIAN SHELZI
I’m not sure anyone will really stop them.

JIN HIRAI
And for those in the back, we gonna watch you. And if you happen to hear us say “WAG1”, we ain’t sayin’ hello.

All three WAG1 members make a “W” with their left hand and raise it proudly in the air. The gesture is met with disapproval from the audience.

It seems that the crowd is trying to say the same exact thing.

BRIAN SHELZI
Although those who won their first matches have cleared their physicals, it looks like WAG1 has declared themselves to be first-in-line should one be unable to participate. Do you think they competed in a dance battle to determine who would be the first reserve?

SAM HEWITT
Frankly, I don’t think they’ve thought that far ahead, Brian. Well, we have our first pair of semi finalists coming up right after these messages from our sponsors.

They better increase the amount of security in the back before one of these guys has an “accident”.

Semi Final Match

MEZA vs. RED TIGER KING

1 Fall - 15 Minute Time Limit

The bell sounds and the two men lock-up, MEZA despite being undersized manages to leverage Red Tiger King back into the ropes off the exchange. Tubby Thomas calls for a break, which occurs immediately and MEZA politely nods to RTK as the fans applaud the sportsmanship. Plus after already fighting Luke Marshall this evening, I'm sure RTK finds it to be a nice change of pace as he does seem a little taken aback by it. For MEZA, the pace is already much slower than the war he and Eron Hunter went through. The two men circle again and MEZA pulls an arm wringer out of the lock-up, but RTK quickly converts it into one of his own. MEZA does a head stand and pops back up, reversing the arm wringer back and then arm dragging the Tiger down to the canvas. He tries to keep the arm lock applied, but RTK fights back up to a standing position. With no choice, MEZA backs RTK into the ropes and shoots him off. On the rebound, MEZA leap frogs him but catches him with a spinning back fist as he bounces off the ropes a second time! RTK crumbles to the mat! MEZA covers!

MEZA sits RTK up and applies La Noria, RTK's left arm is applied into a hammerlock while MEZA's legs control his right arm. MEZA begins turning, forcing RTK to go counter clockwise with him and the crowd eats up the interesting submission. RTK is having none of it and manages to snag the ropes with his feet as he makes his fifth full rotation. MEZA lets go with no issue, but the Tiger King is none too pleased.

SAM HEWITT

Red Tiger King is actually two years younger than MEZA, but a lot of people think otherwise based on their prominence in the sport so far. Despite these two being friends, I can see a submission like that putting a strain on it real quick.

BRIAN SHELZI

Absolutely. If it was just the neck crank, I don't think you'd have the reaction you got from RTK... but five full spins around? You're just showing off and don't get me wrong, it's impressive as hell... but be prepared to deal with the consequences. That said, I like it. It gets under an opponent's skin and as I said earlier, you want to get out of the first couple rounds as unscathed as possible and a great way to do it that is frustrate an opponent and have them abandon their game plan.

RTK stomps on MEZA repeatedly, then pulls him to his feet and executes a nasty brainbuster! RTK floats over...

FOOT ON THE ROPE!

RTK snatches the foot off the rope and covers again!

2-NO!

Red Tiger King puts his hands up and backs off, apologizing to referee Tubby Thomas as MEZA is given time to get back up. RTK looks conflicted, but opts to charge at MEZA - kicking him in the leg and then battering him with forearm smashes across the neck and back. RTK backs up into the ropes and charges forth, but MEZA pops up and dropkicks his leg out from underneath him! RTK goes down, rolls into a seated position clutching his leg and MEZA storms into him with a sliding lariat! RTK goes down and rolls out of the ring, clutching his leg as he falls to a knee. Thomas tries to keep MEZA from chasing, but the youngster from New Mexico scales the turnbuckles and leaps off with a diving crossbody! The fans roar with chants of "ME-ZA! ME-ZA!" as he gets up and roars right back to them in excitement before dropping to his knees.

SAM HEWITT

Sometimes adrenaline can carry you far, but there's always a dump - no avoiding that.

BRIAN SHELZI

He made the most of it though, MEZA went high risk and it paid off. It put RTK down on the ground, didn't let him recuperate any after two quick successive strikes with the dropkick and the lariat but it's all for naught if MEZA can't get up and get him back inside. I'd say he could take the ring out win, but we both know he won't.

MEZA and RTK both start climbing back inside on adjacent sides of the ring. MEZA makes it in first, but seems to stall as RTK gets in and up to his feet. The young New Mexico native charges, then tries to pick up RTK for a pendulum bomb... but RTK uses his size advantage to block it and grabs MEZA around the waist...

PILEDRIVER!

BRIAN SHELZI

OOF! I don't know how many of these high impact moves this kid can take tonight, Sambo.

RTK shoves MEZA aside after impact and takes a moment to re-calibrate, then returns to a vertical base. He pulls MEZA up and goes behind, applying a double chickenwing... then tries the suplex... but MEZA roughly lands on his feet and falls back into the ropes. As RTK gets up, MEZA leaps...

CROSSBODY!

He hooks both the outside and inside legs!

RTK kicks out a second too late and rolls out of the ring, clearly frustrated. He grabs a chair from ringside and chucks it away, but then apologizes and storms off to the back. MEZA looks a little confused by the display, but will take his trip to the finals no matter what. He raises his arms as the crowd cheers him on.

SAM HEWITT

Just a quick surprise crossbody block is enough to get the three!

BRIAN SHELZI

It's a tough tournament, you're wrestling twice within the span of an hour if you're here in the semi finals. It's not like wrestling a thirty minute match, you've already been fatigued, recovered, now you're back at it and not a lot of guys have been able to train or compete in something like this before. So don't reinvent the wheel, just go for a cover - you never know.

SAM HEWITT

I'm told we've got some commotion in the back, so let's go back there...

Our camera switches to backstage for the first time tonight as we arrive outside a locker room. The label reads PRIVATE, but based on the scene - it appears to belong to one, Reo Ojima. Red Tiger King and World's Cruiserweight Champion are face to face outside the room, yelling in Japanese at one another. Ojima snarls, language barrier be damned and slaps RTK down to his knees. The masked man stays there as Ojima walks back inside his dressing room and slams the door.

RED TIGER KING

Why are you filming?!

Indeed, RTK has spotted the camera but doesn't wait for an answer. He gets up and storms off again, pushing over a table of delicious Pollo Bucket goodness. RTK passes by a mirror and stops dead in his tracks, backs up... and shock is the best way to describe his reaction. He shakes his head no several times, then rushes off, unfastening his mask as he goes. The cameraman decides its best to cut the chase short.

We go back to ringside.

SAM HEWITT

Um...? I'm not really sure what to make of that scene.

BRIAN SHELZI

Dude saw a loser in the mirror, I guess. Let's move on to the next match, I'm looking forward to this one...

Semi Final Match
DAVID TROY vs. POLLO DORADO II
1 Fall - 15 Minute Time Limit

The bell sounds to begin our second semi final bout as Pollo Dorado II comes out of his corner respecting the striking ability of David Troy. He's maintaining a fighting stance, ready to check any leg kicks that come his way. Troy is Troy, he's ready for war always. Dorado fakes a palm strike, trying to get in close without being blitzed by strikes but a simple lift of Troy's knee is enough to discourage him. Dorado launches a leg kick which lands, but Troy fires a high kick that lands on Dorado's bicep. Dorado uses this chance to get in close and tries to wrangle Dynamite into a front chancery, but the veteran and three time World's Champion isn't allowing it to happen. Dorado pops a knee into the bread basket and Troy goes down! The crowd gasps as Dorado tries to leap onto him and attack, but the veteran fighter wisely rolls out of the ring. No matter, Pollo Dorado is ready for that too! He rushes into the opposite ropes and launches off... but David Troy slides back in and Dorado stops dead in his tracks!

I love it!

Pollo Dorado showing a healthy amount of respect for David Troy's striking, but catches him with a knee flush to the body and Troy's breathing pretty heavy already.

BRIAN SHELZI

Of course! A shot like that is going to knock the wind out of you and if I'm Dorado, I capitalize on that as soon as possible.

The two men circle around again, Troy throws a kick that gets caught and Dorado swoops in after a leg trip. He applies a ground side headlock and tries to isolate an arm, but he's having no luck at all and it turns from bad to worse as Troy wraps his well built legs around Dorado's neck. Dorado fights to his feet and stacks Troy, basically bending him backwards in an effort to free himself from the vice grip of the headscissors. Dorado lands in side control and tries to secure a kimura, but abandons that quickly and goes for a cross armbreaker! Troy grabs his own wrist to prevent Dorado from extending his arm, but sees an opening present itself and pushes Dorado's leg down and captures it between his own two legs. Troy sits up, now in control and dodges an upkick. He returns fire with a palm strike to the side of the face and torques on the leg to apply some more pressure. He releases the leg and quickly stands up, attempting an axe kick to the ground Dorado but the masked fighter gets out of the way and hurriedly grabs the back of Troy in a rear waist hold.

SAM HEWITT

We typically see David Troy execute that axe kick against kneeling opponents, I can't recall seeing him try it on someone laying on the mat.

BRIAN SHELZI

Sometimes you experiment. I think a fighter like Troy knows that the strike wasn't going to hit, but sometimes you gotta throw those in. You have to keep your opponent guessing on what your next move is going to be so he respects your striking, your wrestling, whatever.

Dorado pushes his foot against the back of Troy's knee, dropping him to one knee... then does it to the other to put him on both knees. He then clamps on a double chickenwing WHILE standing on the legs of Troy, he transitions his right arm across the face for a crossface... and CROSSFACE CHICKENWING! He clamps on the pressure as Troy has to literally rock side to side to tip Dorado off balance and break the hold. He lands on top of Dorado and quickly transitions into a side headlock, then climbs into mount. He fires off a few palm strikes to Dorado's face and then forces his arms down to the mat when he tries to defend, maintaining excellent wrist control. Troy does some alternating knees, firing them into the bicep/shoulder area before leaping up and driving both knees into Dorado's chest! Troy rolls off as Dorado turns onto his stomach and retreats to the corner. Troy charges in, but Dorado pops up and blasts him with a palm strike! With Troy staggered, Dorado hits the ropes and delivers a dropkick that sends Troy out to the apron and down to the floor. Dorado hits the ropes again and dives through the ropes but no one is home! Troy slides in, charges at the ropes and picks up speed...

BASEBALL SLIDE DROPKICK!

The crowd roars as Troy elegantly crashes onto the floor mats. He gets up, rolls back into the ring and climbs the turnbuckles - looking out at the Royal Rock crowd. Dorado is being given the ten count on the floor, but climbs onto the apron at seven. Troy gives him lots of space to get back in and onto his feet and so he does. Dorado and Troy stay in place this time, staring each other down trying to guess one another's next move. Dorado dropkicks Troy in the shin! Troy drops to his knees in a fair bit of pain and Dorado charges, pulls his leg out from underneath him and applies a figure four leglock! Troy quickly and desperately tries to work to turn it over and thanks to his leg strength, he does so rather quickly! Troy frees up his legs, but pounces on Dorado who has rolled back onto his back. No matter to Troy, who is working to secure an arm triangle... he walks the arm up, then kicks off and bridges to complete the Brodeur! However, referee Tubby Thomas calls for a break as Dorado got his foot on the bottom rope before the bridge was even completed!

SAM HEWITT

Our first time seeing the Brodeur here in Pollo Road and unfortunately for David Troy, it won't have a one hundred percent success rate.

BRIAN SHELZI

You got to get a guy like Dorado away from the ropes. It's the heat of the moment so I get it, but that submission is money if it's applied in the centre of the ring.

The two men stand up and circle around before engaging in a lock-up. Troy applies a standing side headlock and tries to spin it into a drop toe hold to complete the Kazama Special, but Dorado clamps his arms around Troy's waist and hangs on...

DORADO REACHES BETWEEN TROY'S LEGS... GRABS AN ARM...

BACKDROP SUPLEX! DUMPED ON HIS HEAD!

Dorado crawls up to his feet and tags the top turnbuckle, gripping it to steady himself. He turns and charges Tr--

RUNNING BIG BOOT!

Troy's foot slams into Dorado's skull and Troy more or less teeters over as Dorado falls back against the turnbuckle. Thomas quickly checks both men and determines they are somehow able to continue, he then begins the ten count.

1... 2... 3...

Troy gets on all fours.

4... 5.. 6...

Dorado is trying to stabilize himself as Troy is on one knee.

7...

Troy gets up, Dorado darts at him...

TILT-A-WHIRL CRUCIFIX ARMBAR! LAS ALITAS PICANTES!

Hewitt and Shelzi wonder how much energy Dorado has left in his reserves for this hold, but also Troy who immediately falls to his knees and then his stomach.

BRIAN SHELZI

Troy is close enough to the ropes to get his leg across it, but there's so much contortion going on with this submission and his view is obstructed by Dorado's legs that I'm not sure he knows that...

Dorado cranks back and Troy has no choice but to submit! Dorado lets go immediately and checks on Troy, but referee Tubby Thomas separates them. Dorado drops to his knees against the ropes and raises an arm, having fought a hell of a battle and he still has MEZA to contend with. Troy gets up, sore as hell and nods - giving Dorado a fist bump so he doesn't have to lift his shoulder anymore than he needs to. Thomas helps Troy out of the ring.

Suddenly...

"Queso" by Pell hits, but we have to go to break!

WAG1 has arrived at ringside during the commercial break. Pollo Dorado II is exhausted, but standing guard as the trio surround the ring. Of course, WAG1's downfall might be their coordination as Crazy Boy leaps onto the top rope and misses Dorado as he rolls out of the way. Dorado grabs him and chucks him into his older brother, dropping Squire off the apron and sending both men to the floor. The crowd roars as MEZA grabs Hirai's leg from the floor, yanks him down and bowls him into the other two members! Dorado smirks and MEZA steps up into the ring, ready to fight alongside his opponent. However, there is no need as Lynx leads a number of students down to the ring and they forcibly remove WAG1. Tubby Thomas returns from the back after helping David Troy and slides into the ring.

MASON MARVELLE

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your main event of the evening and the FINALS of the HIJO INVITATIONAL! It is to be fought over a thirty minute time limit with one fall, one submission or a knockout to decide the winner! Introducing first from Las Vegas, New Mexico... He weighs in at one hundred and eighty pounds... MEZA!

MEZA throws his arms up and smiles at the response, feeling some adrenaline.

MASON MARVELLE

His opponent from Parts Unknown! He weighs in at one hundred and ninety five pounds... POLLO DORADO THE SECOND!

Dorado raises his fist.

He smiles and waves.

Final Match
MEZA vs. POLLO DORADO II

1 Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit

The two men engage in a physical lock-up, jockeying for position and executing four or five standing switches before Dorado pulls a hammerlock and uses it to guide MEZA to the mat. From there, he pushes the arm upwards - trying to get MEZA to submit early in the match. However, MEZA yells "NO!" each time he is asked but Dorado limits his options for escaping the hold and seems content to stay in this position for as long as it takes given he literally just fought a match. After being told by Thomas to work or he'll stand them up, Dorado shoots him an incredulous look but opts to listen and begins peppering the arm with small knee drops.

SAM HEWITT

Fans, I apologize we've been up close on the action here but we've had all the participants from tonight's tournament come out here and surround the ring. They want a first hand look at the finals of this great tournament.

BRIAN SHELZI

Everyone but Red Tiger King, who's gone who knows where and... David Troy, who's still being looked at but for the history he and I have, I know for a fact he'll be out here as soon as he's cleared back there.

Dorado goes right back to the hammerlock, but MEZA moves to put his foot over the bottom rope right in front of Luke Marshall - who seems to seriously consider pushing it off but decides his tournament bonus probably isn't worth it. Dorado releases the hold and gets up, MEZA starts back to his feet but gets dropkicked in the arm by Dorado! MEZA cries out in pain as Dorado takes a moment to adjust his mask, then pulls MEZA up and arm drags him to the mat and applies an arm lock. MEZA knows he has to get back to his feet quick or this match is over, so he does - Dorado wrings the arm out and executes a breaker - bringing MEZA's arm down over Dorado's shoulder! MEZA falls to the mat nearly in tears as Dorado collapses against the top rope, trying to catch his breath. Dorado pushes off and grabs MEZA, picking up and executing a Northern Lights suplex! He floats over...

CROSS ARMBREAKER!

MEZA is to the ropes in no time flat.

SAM HEWITT

You can tell that rope break irritated Pollo Dorado, but I feel like there's a lot of admiration there too. He appreciates this kid's guts.

BRIAN SHELZI

Guts or not, Sambo, MEZA came into this match as the fresh man and Pollo Dorado is employing his game plan perfectly. He's allowing himself to rest while simultaneously picking apart MEZA's arm. MEZA needs to suck it up and go for broke here or it's all over.

Dorado pulls MEZA to his feet and backs him into the ropes. He grabs his wrist and goes to Irish whip him, but the arrival of David Troy to ringside causes a commotion. MEZA reverses it and sends Dorado into the ropes instead, Luke Marshall swipes at the legs and Dorado trips! Marshall turns around laughing, then mutters under his breath as he realizes he tripped the wrong man! Nonetheless, Tubby Thomas did not see it so Marshall's bonus is still intact. Dorado gets to his knees and MEZA considers the sliding lariat, but given the state of his arm decides the best course of action is to throw his whole body at the guy! He charges and crossbodies Dorado! Pollo Dorado goes down and rolls out of the ring, the onlookers clear the way as Dorado gets up and questions who tripped him. MEZA hastily climbs the turnbuckles, all the way to the top...

COFFIN DROP!

He takes out Pollo Dorado, who falls back into Luke Marshall and Jan van der Roost! MEZA gets up and climbs back inside. Luke Marshall is none too pleased by the turn of events there and is ready to snap, but interlocks his hands behind his head and takes a seat. Dorado gets up and rolls back inside at the count of nine, earning applause from the Vegas crowd.

SAM HEWITT

Vegas wants to see a clear winner!

MEZA grabs Dorado in a rear waist hold and snaps off a German suplex! Unfortunately for him, Dorado lands on his bad arm and MEZA rolls away in even more pain. He gets up and backs into the corner, climbs up to the second rope and leaps off with a frog splash! He covers!

NO!

MEZA sits Dorado up and drives both knees into his back, he grabs the wrists of Pollo Dorado and applies a surfboard stretch. He leans back and forces the knees deeper into the back and spine of Dorado as he pulls the arms closer together unnaturally. Dorado shakes his head no to quitting, then tries to drape his foot over the bottom rope but MEZA pivots the hold so he's away from the ropes. The chants of "DO-RA-DO!" begin to pump him up and he starts shaking, forcing MEZA to release the hold due to his arm. He tries to apply it again, but Dorado slinks away to the corner for safety. MEZA gives chase and knees him in the gut, then sets him up for an Irish whip but it's MEZA that gets reversed and he crashes into the corner turnbuckles! Dorado charges in and leaps onto the second rope, but MEZA shoves him down and falls to the mat before rolling out of the ring. Dorado does a back roll and gets back up, runs up the turnbuckles and delivers a pescado to MEZA on the floor! MEZA lands hard and Dorado's landing is no better!

SAM HEWITT

Wow! It's pretty damn impressive what this Pollo Dorado can do, but now I have to wonder if either man can beat the ten count back inside?

BRIAN SHELZI

Tubby'd be the least popular guy in the building if this ended in a double knockout and I don't think he wants to relive his high school years.

Indeed, Thomas count doesn't begin until they both start moving. They climb into the ring next to each other at seven and climb to their feet. MEZA swings wildly with his good arm, but Dorado ducks it and grabs a rear waist hold. He tries for a German suplex, but MEZA lands on his feet and charges forth...

His win over RTK will not be duplicated! MEZA gets up and looks around, trying to figure out what to do next. Lynx isn't out there to help guide him, so he decides on something and runs to the corner. Dorado gets up and MEZA comes running out, but Dorado leaps up and tries the crucifix armbar...

MEZA FALLS BACKWARDS INTO THE TURNBUCKLES!

The win over Troy won't be duplicated! MEZA gets up and drags Dorado into the middle of the ring, but Dorado grabs the arm and applies a hammerlock! MEZA reaches out for the ropes, but Dorado has full control of his movement. MEZA turns and doubles over, sticking his head between Dorado's legs and tries to lift him up for the pendulum bomb and does... but Dorado locks his feet on the inside of MEZA's legs and cranks...

SAM HEWITT

MEZA TAPS!

Dorado lets go and falls to the mat, so too does MEZA clutching his arm with tears in his eyes. Dorado rolls over and checks on him as stage hands bring ice bags inside the ring. Luke Marshall walks off, satisfied enough with the outcome. AJ Knight, David Troy, Jan van der Roost climb into the ring while Eron Hunter observes from the outside. Lynx rushes down to check on his protege as Dorado is flanked by photographers.

Fans, the Hijo Invitational was quite the tournament and what a fitting finale this was.

BRIAN SHELZI

Top to bottom, great matches across the board in my opinion.

MEZA is helped up, clutching his arm and the sea of bodies part to allow the two competitors to meet face to face outside the confines of the match. They hug and Dorado whispers something into MEZA's ear. MEZA nods and walks away dejected. Super Pollo enters the ring and hands Dorado a Golden Pollo Bucket jacket, which he hurriedly puts on. Stage hands then bring in the trophy which Soup hands off to him, Dorado raises it as well as he can given his state after three gruelling matches. A box comes to the ring and stage hands begin unpacking it, calling each competitor to collect a plaque to commemorate their participation in the tournament. This goes on for a bit and I want to go to bed, so let's call it here.
