“We’re back.”
For the first time in a good while, a cold open.
Some things are just meant to be. They just fit with the flow of nature, or God, or the Universe, or whatever you wish to call it.
And as the former three-time heavyweight champion of the world greets us, it is clear that David Troy and Pollo Road are just a natural fit.
“Tomorrow night Pollo Road not only returns, but also celebrates a milestone nineteenth anniversary. So of course I have to come back to the place that made me a star.”
A grin.
“After all, someone’s got to carry the torch.
“And when that main event bell rings, you better believe I’ll be shining light on this new iteration of Pollo Road, and everyone sharing that ring.
“Because I want the world to see exactly how good this roster is, so they know just how good I AM, when I take back my place up at the top of that mountain.”
The self-proclaimed Fox Among the Lions holds up three fingers.
“Three times I’ve been the king of the world. The King of Lions. And tomorrow night is the night the chase to title number four starts. Whether the top prize is called that again, or something else, Pollo Road has been my stomping grounds, my sandbox, and I have been as good to it as it has been to me. And just like nature has intended, I’m going to rule this place once again.”
David sighs.
“It won’t be easy. And I know the ride can’t possibly last forever. But you guys like Reo Ojima out there, proving that even if you can’t outrun Father Time forever, you can at least thumb your nose at it for a little while. And with the young newcomers like Red Tiger King and Ultimo Pollo IV and Luke Marshall, I know the field will be young and hungry. Maybe one of them will beat me for that spot at the summit.
“Now they just have to show me what they got.
“Tomorrow starts a new era of Pollo Road, and the chase is ON.”
Fade.

It felt right.
As he turned off the camera, David Roger Troy, Jr. felt the rush of adrenaline he had missed.
Sure, his career had taken him to new horizons since the last time he stood in a Pollo ring, but they didn’t have that familiar feeling like this did.
He knew that tomorrow was a big night, and that he had to be ready for the next big fight.
As his forty-second birthday approached, he saw that not as an omen, but a challenge.
He walked from the makeshift studio and towards the gym, ready to hone his all-out assault for Luke Marshall, Reo Ojima, and Darkness Tigre.
It was showtime.
